Feed the soil.

Falls Brook Farm is a small organic farm in Lyme, Connecticut growing salad greens and native plants through a soil-first approach.

01.

Our Philosophy

Good farming begins with the soil.

At Falls Brook Farm, the focus is not on inputs or treatments.

The work begins underground.

Healthy soil produces healthy plants. When the soil is well cared for, plants grow strong and naturally resist pests and disease. This approach allows the farm to grow crops organically with very few external inputs.

Everything begins by feeding the soil.

02.

What We Grow

Simple crops, carefully grown.

Falls Brook Farm focuses on two things:

Organic Salad Greens

A rotating mix of lettuces and greens grown throughout the season.

Native Plants

Regionally appropriate plants started from seed and grown for local landscapes.

Both are grown on a small scale, with attention to soil health, plant vitality, and ecological balance.

Falls Brook Farm greens and plants are available locally through farm markets, shops, and direct ordering through GrownBy.

03.

Small Scale Farming

Careful farming at a human scale.

Most of the work at Falls Brook Farm is done by hand and with small-scale tools.

This approach keeps the farm close to the plants, close to the soil, and responsive to the conditions of the land.

The goal is not scale, but quality and resilience.

04.

A Landscape
with History

The land at Falls Brook Farm has been cultivated in one way or another since the 1700s.

Although the landscape is complex and only partly tillable, that complexity supports a healthy ecosystem — woodland, meadow, and farmland working together.

No chemicals have been used on this land since the farm has been in the family’s care, and the farm has been certified organic since 2000.
